MR BAKER'S BAKESHOP AT HSBC HEART OF BORNEO CHALLENGE 2009

Last Sunday, 28 June 2009 - We set up our booth at HSBC HEART OF BORNEO CHALLENGE 2009 - The HSBC Heart of Borneo Challenge aimed at raising funds towards establishing a 25ha field study plot at Kuala Belalong Field Study Centre in Temburong. The 25ha research plot will likely include over 1000 species of trees which is more than the forest in all of North America or Europe. The money raised from the Heart of Borneo challenge will proceed to a research project fund for scientists in helping progress further in monitoring the impact of climate change on the forests of Brunei and vice versa. Over US$ 330, 700 is required to help carry out this project reach its goal, thus HSBC is fully committed to contribute their support and commitment in making this project successful.

Popular items that made customers come back for more, amongst others, are the raisin bread and croissant.

The raisin bread recipe originates from Spain but was introduced here by Chef Jean Delin, one of the two renowned chefs employed by Mr Baker's Bakeshop, who had once been in employment at the prestigious Baguio Country Club in the Philippines.

The croissant is the all time favourite pastry, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Top selling cakes are the carrot cake, fresh fruit vanilla cake, and New York cheesecake.

For this month, Mr Baker's is featuring fresh mango ice cream as the cake of the month, perfect as a gift for Father's Day.

MR BAKER'S SUPPORT HSBC HEART OF BORNEO CHALLENGE

The second round HSBC Heart of Borneo Challenge will be held on Sunday 28 June 2009 at Taman Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital. Mr Baker's Bakeshop will set up a counter selling varieties of our products.

The HSBC Heart of Borneo challenge is back again for the second time and is open for cycling enthusiasts. Due to an overwhelming response from last year, the challenge returns with more exciting surprises in store. A family fun fair will also be held at the same place where members of the public can participate in the activities and win great prizes. Among the activities to be held on that day will be the cutest baby competition, colouring activities for children, Eco-Challenge and the Heart of Borneo Obstacle course.

All funds collected from the fun fair will benefit the 25-hectare Field Study plot and other Heart of Borneo related projects.

MR BAKER'S BAKESHOP PARTICIPATE AT HELLO KITTY'S FANTASTICAL ADVENTURE

Bye, Bye Kitty. This is not good news for the public and certainly not good news for the organisers and the cast/crew of "Hello Kitty Adventure Land". The much anticipated show is just 48 hours away but it's out of the hands of the organiser, GoodMiles. Apparently, the whole crew of "Hello Kitty Adventure Land" are already in Brunei Darussalam and they are all set and ready to prepare for the 3-day weekend show. However, the missing ingredient - the costumes and props - are being held in Singapore because the forwarding company (in Singapore) has been frozen by the court in Singapore. So one of the 300 vessels that are being detained has a container that handles the costumes and props for the broadway show. This is such a devastating news for the organiser GoodMiles and they have done so much work in order to make the event possible and successful. TC Chun, the mastermind behind the show, expressed his disappointment during the press conference. The stage director of the show also shared the same sentiment but a positive note, he thanked the organisers for taking good care of them while being in the Sultanate. He was pretty surprised that the show had to be cancelled and in his 25 years of musical show, this is the first time that happened. He was impressed with TC Chun's commitment who was willing to charter a flight for the costumes/props. However, the items in the vessel cannot be released until a green light has been given by the Singapore Court. On behalf of TC Chun, he would like to express his deepest apologies to the public who have purchased the tickets and he guaranteed that all ticket holders will have their monies refunded accordingly. According to his statement, the losses the company made is enough to buy three houses. He has put a lot of energy and hardship in this said project.

Our friendly and happy-go-lucky Kitchen Supervisor – Dyg Siti Sarah. The fillings for some of our top selling pastries such as chicken pie, curry chicken/beef bun, satay bun, sardines bun and pineapple tart is prepared and cooked by Sarah who used to work as a chef with one of the renowned restaurant in the country for years. Sarah joined us in last September when Mr.Baker’s Bakeshop opened its first branch in Batu Bersurat.
