Angry birds...

Angry birds need no introduction at all as you can basically see it appearing at almost every corner these days. When comes to cake design, it is of no exception either. We have received quite a number of cake order lately with the requested design of angry birds. I have no idea what will be the next "hot selling" design but at this moment, it has to be these very very angry birds :)

1st Reunion

A few weeks ago, I posted a class photo of St.Margaret's Secondary 5 of Year 1993 and this is the follow up post. We are currently planning a big reunion (looking at next year) where overseas friends and spouses/families, all the way from London, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, will make special trips back to Brunei to join us!

We had a small dinner gathering over the weekend at Kuala Belait. Before the dinner, I dropped by our ex-school, wandered around the compound and took some pictures of classrooms. Just when I was about to leave, to my great surprise and pleasure, I bumped into my ex-History and Geography teachers. I am totally amaze that they could still remember my name considering I wasn't one of the brilliant one then :)

Taufu Factory

I sent my car for a routine check up at Menglait area last week and came across a taufu (bean curd) factory which is just opposite to the workshop. I have never seen how taufu is being made hence, out of curiosity, I decided to pay them a visit and had few words with the friendly owner.

I understand that they are supplying to some major supermarkets in Brunei and by looking at the size of the factory, my wild guess is they are probably one of the biggest supplier. The good thing is they also do retailing which means you can just walk in and buy even for small quantity.

Brunei's lamington

What is lamington? It is literally sponge cake (normally comes in cubicle shape) coated with chocolate ganache and covered with desiccated coconuts all over. If you have been to Australia before most likely you would come across this popular product which is commonly available at major supermarkets and cafeterias.

Our lamington comes with 4 different flavors of fillings namely custard, mint, chocolate and strawberry jam with the former 2 flavors being the most popular. In fact, lamington is not a new product of Mr.Baker as we have been selling it since about a year ago but was always mistakenly as one of the local delicacies, Kueh Kusui :)

I am overjoyed to learn that our lamington is amongst the top selling pastries recently (next to our cream puffs and california cheese) and after having spoken to two separate happy customers yesterday evening and one close friend today, I agree that we should promote it more frequently so people would know about it. So far, if I am not wrong, we are the only commercial bakery in Brunei that sells lamington.

Majlis Penyampaian Sijil

A Certificate Presentation ceremony was held at the Hospital RIPAS Sports Complex on 07.07.2011 and we were given the opportunity to be their food and refreshments caterer. It was such a wonderful experience for us as this is the first time we cater to a 'full course' catering services that comes with coffee/tea and fruit platters. The assorted desserts we served on the day were strawberry shortcakes, sovital rolls, assorted danish, cream puff, chocolate eclair and wholemeal sandwiches.

I was there helping out prior to the commencement and throughout the event; from the setting up of tables and buffet counters to the arrangement of cutlery and fruits. And I learn something yet again from this catering experience - the proper way of cutlery arrangement!

We received some very good feedbacks on our products from doctors and medical officers who attended the ceremony particularly our famous sovital roll, which literally is a healthy bun that doesn't contain any eggs nor sugar but comprises of only wholemeal flour, walnuts, oatmeals and bits of mixed fruits.

We have done quite a number of catering services before such as birthday parties, wedding functions, grand opening for businesses and school events but none of them are as formal as this. I feel so honour to be a part of this event. For further enquiries on our catering services, please do feel free to contact Eric (8768770) or Amy (8830262).

Good Old Times!!

I was FB chatting with Jeff, who is currently in Australia, the other night and we came up with an idea of creating a FB group for Class Year 1993 of St.Margaret's School (Seria) - the year when I was in my secondary five. Few days later, Jeff created the group and invited me as an admin. We then started inviting our classmates (Year 1993 class) to join the group and the responses were almost instantly. We now already have 35 members and counting.

The topics we shared in the group chat were rather hilarious with endless teasing words and sarcasm against each other. I get to see a lot of people whom I have lost contact with for almost 18 years since we left the school hence it's great indeed to be able to see them again.

To all the classmates of 1993, thank you for your support and participation in the group and I am so looking forward to the "big gathering" which I sincerely believe, with our love and passion, it is definitely going to happen.
Can you spot where Mr.Baker is?
